Our Baby Girl

MADELEINE AUGUSTA KELLY
Born March 11, 2008 at 12:54 am
8 pounds 7 ounces
21 inches long
*
She was wide awake for the first 2 hours after she was born. It was so amazing finally getting to hold her!
Look at all that hair!
Madeleine is currently in the NICU at the hospital because after delievery she was breathing heavily and it appeared that she had inhaled some amniotic fluid. They have diagnosed her with Pneumonia and will treat her with antibiotics. She is also getting oxygen to help her breathe better. We are sad that we do not get to hold our baby girl or get to spend every minute with her but we are thankful that she is doing well and the Drs say she is going to be fine. The plan is that she will remain in the NICU for the next 7 days. Paul and I will go home on Thursday but we plan to spend every free minute at the hospital with Madeleine. We can't wait until we can take her home.

* The name... * I have always really liked the name Madeleine so I had pretty much decided that that was my number one choice. At first Paul was not so sure though. So we spent a rainy Saturday afternoon at Barnes and Noble with a stack of baby name books and we came up with a list of our favorites. Then we went through them and played around with middle names but by the end of the day we agreed on Madeleine. We chose the name Augusta after my grandmother. We both love the name and I am shocked that I was actually able to keep it a secret for 6 months!

We will update the blog with pictures of Madeleine (and Byron) as often as we can. I know she is going to grow up so fast so I am sure I will be taking a million pictures.
