It was our last weekend on MV and the weather wasn't great but we still managed to pack in a lot of fun. Madeleine was really sad to leave. She woke up this morning at 5:30 crying because she didn't want to have to leave. It was a really fun summer and I think we were all sad to see the month come to an end.
On Friday we went out on the boat and anchored off of State Beach. Some of us swam to the beach. Katharine and Madeleine had fun collecting treasures like sea glass and shells.

On Saturday we headed to the beach. It was cloudy and sprinkling a little when we got there but the kids still had a blast.
Claire and Benjamin were really cute playing together in the waves.
The dot in the picture is Claire. She chased a seagull down the beach and went surprisingly far all on her own.
Eventually Madeleine took off after her.

Swimming off the dock. Madeleine got tossed by a wave so she was covered in sand. the only solution was to go for a swim off the dock when we got home. I think we will be finding sand in her hair for the next month.
Playing playing and more playing. The older kids played non stop this summer and played really well together. Most of the time the grown ups had no idea what they were playing because they were so deep in their imaginative play. This morning I asked the older kids what their favorite part of MV was this summer. Madeleine answered first and said, "swimming." Then Katharine answered and she said, "getting to see everyone everyday." Then Benjamin answered and said, "what Katharine said." Madeleine then promptly said, "yeah me too, what Katharine said." I think Katharine was right and what made the summer so fun and great for the kids was being together. Whether we were hanging out at the house on a rainy day or at the beach or on the boat on a perfectly sunny day they were having fun... a lot of fun.
We went to the Right Fork Diner on Saturday night.
Pete, Irna, and Sarah joined us
Claire loved sitting between two Sarahs
The girls had so much fun playing with Pete. I think they could have stayed and played catch with him all night.
This morning we had to pack and clean up the house before catching a 2:30 ferry. We were able to get in a swim. Madeleine likes to push the noodle away and then swim to it. She has gained a lot of confidence in the ocean over the past month.
Claire jumped off the dock for the first time
Big girl Claire agreed to throw her bottle into the ocean for the baby fish. She is very attached to her bottle so we thought leaving the bottles on MV would be a good opportunity for her to give it up. We will see how the next week or so go.
I think she was a little shocked to see it in the ocean
